Allocate+ terms and modes

TermExplanationsConsequences
Allocate+ (A+) The timetable application for working out clash-free and fair activity timetables for most students.

Runs a sort after most students have enrolled in units
To be fair, the first to enter preferences do not get priority.

The reason is that this could prevent other students from studying units they are enrolled in
A+ preference entry mode A system status that allows:
  • students to enter preferred times for unit activities they are enrolled in.
A+ cannot be used until a student has enrolled in units
A+ sort A+ sorts students into activity time slots that work best for most students About 80% of students will get their first preference.

Not everyone will initially get a clash-free timetable so you must check it
A+ allocation adjustment mode A system status that allows students to:
  • change the activities that A+ has allocated to them - if there are free time slots available
  • enter new choices if a faculty has added new activities based on popular demand.
There may not be free time slots available unless students get in early.

For new activity time slots, it is on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis
A+ special cases a) Some faculties and campuses open in allocation adjustment mode only:
  • Business and Economics for postgraduates
  • South Africa.
a) There is no preference entry mode and sort

Activities are filled on a ‘first-come, first-served basis’ to encourage early enrolment
b) For some courses, the faculty creates your timetable. You do not need to do preference entry or allocation adjustments for:
  • MBBS, Physiotherapy, Radiography
  • Pharmacy
  • Music
  • Science - Gippsland campus.
b) In these instances, A+ is used in read-only mode
c) Some activities need to close adjustment mode early:
  • Some laboratory classes in Science and Medicine.
c) Contact details to change the activity time may display next to these read-only activities
A+ read-only mode A system status that allows:
  • Students to look at their timetable and room allocations.
No changes can be made
Auto allocated in A+ Student is allocated to an activity time slot. They do not have a choice Students still need to check auto allocated activities.

Students have to ensure a location and time are assigned for each activity
% in A+ Shows the popularity of a time slot.

It shows how many students have picked an activity time slot compared to the total number of students who can attend for that time slot
Entering a preference in a time slot with low popularity may increase the chance of getting into that time slot.

However, preventing clashes is more important to the system
Flags in A+ Shows time slots that must be included when selecting preferences (if they appear) Entering a preference in a time slot with a flag may increase the chance of getting into that time slot
