- 1958 - Sir Robert Rutherford Blackwood becomes the first Chancellor of Monash University
- 1960 (January) - Sir Louis Matheson becomes the first Vice-Chancellor of Monash University. He served this term for 16 years
- 1960 (November) - First Professorial Board Meeting held
- 1961 - Monash University officially opens

- 1983 - Monash graduate takes America's Cup
- 1983 - The Hon. Sir George Hermann Lush is conferred as the 4th Chancellor of Monash University
- 1987 - Professor Mal Logan AC becomes the University’s 4th Vice-Chancellor
- 1987 - Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) established
- 1989 - Students fight introduction of HECS
- 1990 (July) - Caulfield and Peninsula Campuses created
- 1991 - Gippsland joins Monash
- 1992 - David William Rogers becomes the 5th Chancellor of Monash University
- 1992 - Victorian College of Pharmacy, now a faculty of Monash University

- 2007 - Monash shares piece of Nobel Prize
- 2008 - Dr Alan Finkel becomes the University’s 7th Chancellor. He is the first alumnus of Monash to hold this position
