Monash University Collection was established during the foundation period of the University. The first commission undertaken by the University was a ceramic sculptural mural by John Perceval.
Today: The Monash University collection is nationally recognised for its currency, depth and diversity, providing a significant resource for the Monash University Museum of Art, the university and broader community.
The collection has grown from its beginnings in 1961 to represent a leading overview of Australian art, spanning a variety of media and artistic styles. Among its 1200 works are major works by Howard Arkley, Arthur Boyd, Ian Burn, John Brack, Destiny Deacon, Bill Henson, Linda Marrinon, Tracey Moffatt, Callum Morton, Susan Norrie, Mike Parr, John Perceval, Patricia Piccinini, Ricky Swallow, Jenny Watson and Fred Williams.
