Overview
Sustainability of Australia's economy is a function of many aspects including: water conservation, the reduction and management of pollutants, financial security and well being of both individuals and business ventures. The level of innovation and development of new technologies, advancement of Australia's intellectual capacity and optimisation of our natural resource base will be essential elements of our future sustainability.

About the speaker
Ian Nethercote is Chief Executive, Loy Yang Power and Great Energy Alliance Corporation (GEAC). He has more than 30 years experience in a number of key strategic and line management positions within the electricity industry. Prior to his appointment as Chief Executive of Loy Yang Power in February 1999, he held the position of Director Operations and Marketing within the company.
In addition to his direct involvement within the industry sector, Ian is a Director of the: Monash University Council, Cooperative Research Centre for Clean Power from Lignite, Institute of Public Affairs and National Generators Forum. He is also Chair of the Monash University Gippsland campus Advisory Committee and a Member of the: Federal Government’s National Low Emissions Coal Council, CSIRO Energy & Transport Sector Advisory Council and Mineral Resources Sector Advisory Council.
Ian is a fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia (FIE Aust, CPEng), a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD) and also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management (FAIM).

- Take the shuttle bus. Monash has free shuttle buses for staff and students.
- Ride. Cycling 5km or less the bike is faster than a car. You can also combine cycling with train travel to get anywhere in Melbourne.
- Walk. Everyone needs at least 30 minutes exercise a day.
