Single degrees
In 2007, almost 60 per cent of all Monash students were studying for a single undergraduate degree program.
Single degree programs at Monash offer students many different opportunities. The choice is yours. You can study a broad undergraduate program that enables you to tailor your studies to your individual interests, or you might take one of our more career-specific programs that lead to an industry-recognised and accredited qualification on graduation.
What is a single degree
- When you study for a single degree, you graduate with one qualification (eg. Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Science)
- Monash offers one of Australia's widest choices of single degree programs from our ten faculties
- Most single degrees require three or four years of full-time study (or the part-time equivalent)
- The subjects you study in your degree program are called units, and a full-time study load is usually eight units per year
Options with a single degree
- You will usually study compulsory units that provide an essential breadth of knowledge in your chosen field
- You will also choose elective units to complete your degree, giving you a depth of knowledge in particular areas (see Majors and Minors). A single degree will often allow more freedom in choice and availability of elective units
- A single degree can mean that you can be a graduate in the workforce in three years
- A single degree can lead to an Honours year
- A single degree can also lead to postgraduate coursework study or a higher degree by research
