Australian citizens/permanent residentsAustralian Postgraduate Award (APA)This award, offered by the Australian Government, is available to Australian citizens and to permanent residents. It provides a yearly non-taxable stipend of $A19,616 (2007). Approximately 115 awards are offered each year at Monash. Persons who have completed a four year undergraduate degree or equivalent at H1 level and who wish to undertake a research masters, PhD or professional doctorate are eligible to apply. Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) (APA (I))These awards prepare high calibre researchers for industry research. Two main types of students are targeted: recent graduates interested in industry research and research personnel from industry upgrading their research skills. The awards, offered by the Australian Government, are available to Australian Citizens, permanent residents, and to New Zealand citizens. Potential candidates will be invited to submit applications to academic staff members who have been awarded one of these collaborative grants. Monash Graduate Scholarship (MGS)Approximately 140 Monash Graduate Scholarships are offered annually. They provide a yearly non-taxable stipend of $19,616 (2007). Monash Silver Jubilee Postgraduate ScholarshipThis scholarship is offered each year to a group of faculties in turn. The award carries a yearly non-taxable stipend of $25,627 (2007). In all other respects, eligibility criteria are the same as for the Monash Graduate Scholarship. Sir James McNeill Foundation Postgraduate ScholarshipThis prestigious scholarship was established in memory of the late Sir James McNeill who had a long association with Monash University. The scholarship provides a generous living allowance. Only those candidates proposing to undertake a doctorate in Music, Engineering, Science or Medicine, are eligible for this award. Monash Departmental Scholarships (MDS)Many departments at Monash University offer postgraduate scholarships funded from departmental or outside funds to be used at the department's discretion. Monash Research Scholarships (MRS)Many departments at Monash University offer externally funded postgraduate scholarships where the sponsor indicates that the funding is to be used for a scholarship under specified conditions.
