Harold Carroll Memorial Scholarship

The Late Harold White Carroll, a retired grazier from Devonport, on his death in 2000 established a fund to provide scholarships for deserving students in the State of Victoria, to allow them to enter or continue university studies. On behalf of the Trustees of the Estate of the Late Harold Carroll these scholarships have been made available to eligible students for study at Monash University.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:

  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen, a holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa, and
  • a commencing or continuing undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) student, and
  • intending to enrol in a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) degree at a Monash campus in Australia, and
  • able to demonstrate financial hardship.

Selection criteria

Attendance at one of the following schools (in descending order of preference):

(a) Former pupils of:

  • Coleraine Primary School
  • St Joseph’s School, Coleraine.

(b) Former pupils of:

  • Port Fairy Consolidated School*
  • St Patrick’s Primary School, Port Fairy
  • Balmoral High School
  • Balmoral Consolidated School.*

(c) Former pupils of primary or secondary schools in the Western District of Victoria (approximately west and south west of the Calder Highway and all towns and cities on that highway). Monash University reserves the right to determine the localities contained within this boundary.

Preference will be given to former pupils of those schools named and to applicants who can demonstrate involvement in community or social activities, or provide other documentation that indicates a capacity for hard work and a willingness to learn.

* At various times, these consolidated schools have also been known as state or primary schools.

Value

$3,000 per annum for the duration of the degree, for a maximum of four years. Students who complete their degree within three years may be eligible to hold the scholarship for an additional year to undertake an honours program.

Recipients must maintain full-time enrolment and a minimum of a pass grade average (50 per cent).

Deferability

This scholarship cannot be deferred.
