Making the transition to university studyWhen secondary students first come to university, they are often faced with a completely different style of learning as well as having to deal with a different environment and making new friends. Adjusting to university life usually takes time and effort, but there is help available. Monash Transition ProgramThe Monash Transition Program supports all students, undergraduate and postgraduate, to adjust successfully to university life and study - to "transition" through university - including the teaching and learning styles, life, procedures, practices and culture of the university. Host schemeThe first day at uni can be made much easier if students get involved in the Host Scheme program. The Host Scheme is a major student orientation activity, which involves later-year students hosting small groups of first-year students and introducing them to Monash through orientation camps and other social activities. Students who get involved in the program are often a step ahead of those who don’t, because they start the year knowing people, understanding how the system works and knowing their way around campus. This program is a must for first-year students. OrientationOrientation is an event which includes a series of academic and social activities designed to help first-year students settle into university life and celebrate the beginning of the academic year. Activities include mock lectures, mock tutorials and workshops, barbecues, club days, entertainment, library tours and opportunities to informally meet and greet lecturers and tutors. Student Survival WeekStudent Survival Week is held in week four or five of the first semester each year. It provides students with the opportunity to seek out and make use of information, facilities and resources available on campus. It allows students to receive advice and support on issues that have arisen in the first few weeks of university life. |
