Step 3: SelectionFor domestic studentsIt is important to understand that although VTAC handles the applications, it does not select students into courses. Selection is the responsibility of universities. After the change of preference period, VTAC forwards all applications for Monash courses to the selection officer for each course. Applicants are selected primarily on the basis of their ENTER. However, some courses select applicants by individually ranking them according to a range of specified selection criteria. Most courses apply an 80/20 formula, where the first 80 per cent of places in a course are filled using applicants’ ENTERs as the method of selection. The remaining 20 per cent of those considered in the 'middle band' compete for the balance of available places. The VTAC guide sets out what criteria will be applied to middle-band students. More information about selection of domestic students. For international studentsAll students must meet the academic requirements of the courses they apply for. To assess this, the University must compare home country qualifications to the equivalent Australian academic entry standard for the course. International students must also meet other entry requirements, including age and English language standards. If an application is not successful for the preferred course, lower preferences are considered or a pathway program, such as an English language course or Monash College diploma, may be offered. |
