Step 4: Offers

For domestic students

Once the selection officers have gone through the selection process, they send VTAC the details of the students to whom they wish to offer a place. The first round of offers is sent out to students in January. Students may receive one offer in each round.

Accepting or deferring the offer

Students are then required to attend enrolment at the institution to formally accept or defer the offer. If the applicant chooses to defer, the university is bound by contract to hold the place for one year. No action is required if the student wishes to reject the offer, as failure to turn up on the enrolment day forfeits the offer.

Second round of offers

As some applicants defer from a course or do not accept an offer of place, some courses find they still have places after the first round of offers. In this case, a second round of offers will go out, and a student may be offered a place higher on their list of preferences than they received in the first round of offers. Students can then accept their second-round offer if it is their preferred option. They must cancel the offer they have already accepted from the first round with the institution directly.

For international students

Successful applications will receive a letter of offer of a place in a course at Monash University.

There are three types of offers:

  • A full offer means that the application meets all entry requirements for the course
  • A conditional offer means that the applicant will have to meet certain requirements or provide additional information before commencing the course (such as academic results, English skills or possibly the curriculum of previous studies)
  • A packaged offer is an offer for two or more Monash programs grouped together (such as Monash College and Monash University)
