Step 1: Application

For domestic students

All domestic students must lodge their initial list of course preferences to VTAC by late September. They need to consider the following points when deciding on course preferences.

Order of preference

  • Students must list a minimum of one course to complete an application and are able to list a maximum of twelve courses.
  • they are able to list more than one course on their application, the order in which they list the courses is very important.
  • It is a preference list, so students must list the courses they want to apply for in order of preference -- their first preference should be the course they most want to get into. However, they should be prepared to accept an offer for any course on their list.
  • Students are able to make changes to their preferences during the 'Change of Preference' period in December.

Subject prerequisites

  • Many courses have prerequisite subjects. These are subjects that must be successfully completed at the Year 12 level to be considered for university selection. English is a prerequisite for all Monash courses.
  • The VTAC guide clearly states the prerequisites that apply for each course.

Extra requirements

  • Some courses have extra requirements that are part of the selection process. For instance, a student may be required to present a folio of artwork, attend an interview or provide additional information such as letters of recommendation.
  • Not all courses have extra requirements. However, if extra requirements are listed, they are mandatory.
  • The VTAC guide provides information on any extra requirements.
  • For international students

International students should follow the step-by-step application process.
