Leadership

At some stage in your studies or career you'll probably need to demonstrate leadership.

Leaders must, among other things, command respect, communicate clearly, resolve conflict, solve problems, take responsibility and delegate. Leaders need a sense of idealism, confidence, ethics, and the ability to change themselves, their teams and organisation. Leadership skills are something most employers want, but you can't always learn them in a classroom.

All these things can be learnt. And because Monash offers a range of programs - all differing in length and focus - you can choose the one that best suits your aspirations.

Participating in a leadership program will challenge you, extend you and prepare you for success both inside and outside of the classroom.

The Vice-Chancellor's Ancora Imparo Student Leadership Program

The Vice Chancellor's Ancora Imparo Program helps passionate and idealistic students prepare for future leadership roles. Ancora Imparo includes theory, case studies, discussions, debates and seminars. Distinguished Australian leaders deliver many of the seminars, and you will meet a range of high profile community leaders.

Ancora Imparo includes a three-day residency before first semester, and monthly seminars. There is no formal assessment.

You apply in your first year of study. Learn more about and apply for the Vice Chancellor's Ancora Imparo Program.

Faculty programs

Several faculties have leadership programs. They include:

Monash Orientation for Higher Objectives (MOHO)

Monash Orientation for Higher Objectives (MOHO) is a leadership program, conducted online, which kickstarts your journey in becoming a:

  • public intellectual
  • social critic
  • visionary leader.

MOHO equips you to join in public debate about topics that form some of the core themes of Monash research, such as:

  • environmental sustainability
  • health and wellbeing
  • social inclusion.

MOHO is an ideal opportunity to build up your leadership experience, particularly in the weeks preceding classes – you’ll then hit the ground running when semester starts.

Learn more about MOHO: when it runs, what it involves and how to join.

Specialised leadership units

You can also embed leadership as part of your degree through specialised units.
