The Australian Science Olympiads provide students with opportunities to enhance their knowledge, understanding and skill in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
About the Olympiads
Students can launch themselves into the International Science Olympiads through being involved with the Australian program.
The International Science Olympiads (ISO) is regarded as the 'Olympic Games for science students'. Australian Science Olympians compete with hundreds of students from all over the world. The 2009 International Olympiads will be hosted by Japan (Biology), England (Chemistry) and Mexico (Physics).
Monash Science Olympiad summer school
As a major sponsor of the Australian Science Olympiads program, Monash hosts entrants from around the country throughout the month of January. Students attend classes for two weeks, completing an entire first-year university science course, including lab work, lectures and exams.
The Australian team is then selected from entrants to the summer school program at Monash. View images from the 2009 Monash Science Olympiad summer school.
How to get involved
The first step towards becoming a Science Olympiad is the National Qualifying Examinations. To register visit the Australian Science Olympiads website. To be eligible, students must be in Year 11 or below. Schools are invited to nominate their top students to sit the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Examinations.
