Student visa conditions

You must comply with the conditions of your student visa

Working

There are restrictions on the number of hours you can work if you have permission to work. Conditions for working while studying.

Health cover

You must maintain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) while studying in Australia.

Address details

You must notify Monash of your address within 7 days of:

  • Arriving in Australia 
  • Changing your address

You can do this in the Web Enrolment System (WES)

Students under 18

If you want to change your accommodation or welfare arrangements at any time you must first get permission. Discuss your plans with an adviser at Monash Connect.

Intermission (study leave)

To apply for intermission (also known as study leave), complete the Intermission Application (pdf 43kb).

Doctoral or MPhil candidates should complete the MRGS leave from candidature/scholarship application (pdf 38kb). You need to support any request for intermission with supporting documentation.

Intermission for student visa holders can only be approved on compassionate or compelling circumstances, like illness or severe personal trauma.

Extending your student visa

If your student visa is due to expire before your course end date, you will need to apply for an eCOE extension in WES:

You must apply at least 1 month before your current visa expires. We will send your new eCOE to your Monash email account within 5 – 10 working days.

Changing your residency status

If you are granted a permanent residency visa or if your residency status reverts from permanent to temporary, you must inform the University within 14 days.

General skilled migration

You may be able to apply for temporary or permanent residency under the General Skilled Migration Program.
