Personal challenge
The Enhancement Studies program provided me with an opportunity to challenge myself and study media and communication. I'd always been fascinated with the media and these units enabled me to find out what the field was really about and sink my teeth into some theory.
Ease the transition to University
The program gave me a valuable insight into Monash University and assisted with my transition to university. In my first semester I already had my student ID and email account set up, while other students in my tutorial were stressing out about the Harvard referencing system, but not me, I'd been through all that already. I'd already learnt what was expected from me in a university essay and exam, how to keep up with weekly readings and had a good feel for navigating the uni.
Fast-track studies
Studying in the Enhancement Program was a rewarding experience, and I increased my aggregate ENTER score. I also obtained credit towards my Arts degree, which meant I could fast-track my communications major, and take second year-level subjects in first year!
Personal achievement
Another major highlight was being awarded the Enhancement Prize for the highest achieving communications student for the program. It was quite astounding to know I'd topped what was already an excellent group of students. It wasn't just a nice ego boost, but also a financial one!
While on occasions it was difficult managing my year 12 workload with the demands of enhancement studies, overall I had a very positive experience. It helped me confirm my university degree choice and while my first semester at university was still daunting, the stepping stone had been paved through the Enhancement Studies Program.
