Why study Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Midwifery?

Nurses are among the most valued members of any community, and midwives play a crucial role in bringing new life into the world and caring for mothers and babies before, during and after birth.

This double degree will give you specialist knowledge and a broad range of nursing skills in communication, research, clinical reasoning, client care and judgement, making you highly employable in any practice setting, especially in rural and remote areas where being multi-skilled can save lives.

Our graduate nurses and midwives are highly sought after thanks to our teaching quality and links to world-class medical researchers and major teaching hospitals.

Monash is a pioneer in IVF research and practice, and the Monash Medical Centre treats the most at-risk pregnancies in Victoria, including, in a world first, with the hormone melatonin, now undergoing clinical trials.

The course, delivered at our Peninsula campus, draws on such expertise.

You will have plenty of opportunity for clinical experience in diverse settings throughout Victoria. You will also get the chance to study and undertake clinical placements in Sweden and the UK under our student exchange programs.

You will graduate with the ability to provide continuous care to mothers and babies from before to after birth. You will also be able to provide nursing care in any situation, including emergencies.

Our nursing graduates include Andrew Cameron, recipient of the Florence Nightingale Medal, the world's highest nursing honour, who has been with the Red Cross in Afghanistan, and Carlene Hurst, awarded for her work in community mental health.
