As a graduate, you will be qualified to deliver care in traditional health settings, such as hospitals, as well as community-based settings, such as general practice, Royal District Nursing and community health centres.
After successfully completing the course and meeting the registration requirements of the the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, you'll be eligible to become a registered nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
This course will equip you for traditional nursing roles in hospitals and a growing area of modern nursing - community-based care.
Offered at our Berwick campus, the course is our response to the many social factors that are encouraging the provision of more health care in local communities. These factors include an ageing population, more people living with chronic illness, rising hospital costs and the renewed emphasis on promoting health in the community.
In addition to developing excellent clinical skills - about half the course is delivered in clinical settings - you will gain important communication, health promotion, education and organisational skills, which are integral to community nursing.
You can study majors in behavioural science, biosciences, clinical studies, community health, health promotion and nursing - and they all meet the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council standards of nursing practice.
You will become an expert in health promotion, early intervention, education, treatment and referral, and gain the confidence to work in a range of settings, including community health centres, general practice, the Royal District Nursing Service, schools, universities, local councils and patients' homes.
You will graduate as a nurse in demand with a holistic approach to health care and a strong commitment to preventing disease and promoting, maintaining and restoring health.
