The Diploma of Higher Education Studies is a pathway programme to a degree in one of following areas: Arts and Social Sciences, Business and Economics, Information Technology or Science.
On completion of the DHES and the relevant degree there are many career paths available.
Graduates of the DHES Arts and social science stream and the Bachelor of Arts (Social Science) and the stream of subjects students choose in their arts degree may guide them towards a particular career. Monash arts graduates are working in fields such as:
journalism, publishing, editing, writing, electronic media, public relations, corporate communications
marketing, advertising, business research and analysis
management consulting, international trade, human resources, training and development, management and administration
diplomacy, foreign affairs, politics
social and community services, counselling, social welfare, social research, policy and planning
Graduates of the DHES business stream and the Bachelor of Business and Commerce and depending on the area of major study undertaken, graduates can work in many occupations, including financial analyst and human resources officer, as well as in marketing, accountancy, international trade, administration and advertising.
Graduates of the DHES IT stream and the Bachelor of IT and Systems degree enter a variety of roles such as:
Specialist programmer
Systems analyst
Business analyst
Database administrator
Games developer
Multimedia developer
IT Consultant
The one-year (2 semester) course provides intensive learning opportunities in problem-solving, analytical, and research skills that will prepare students for the rigours of tertiary level academic study. In addition, students gain credit towards their undergraduate degrees by successfully completing (subject to individual Faculty specifications) six first year subjects in their chosen streams and two additional core units. This course offers an alternate pathway to Monash undergraduate degrees offered at the Sunway Campus through the Faculties of Arts, Business and Economics, Information Technology and Science for applicants.
