Nursing offers excellent and varied career prospects in Australia and overseas. You could work in a major or community hospital, community clinic, mental health service, aged or extended care, such as a rehabilitation centre, or in home-based nursing.
You could also choose further study to become a clinical nurse specialist or an educator, manager or researcher.
After successfully completing the course and meeting the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, you'll be eligible to become a registered nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

Non year 12 applicants may be admitted through the following mechanisms:
Comparable qualifications: Applicants may be admitted to the course on the basis of qualifications deemed to be the equivalent of VCE and includes qualifications at secondary or tertiary level obtained interstate or overseas or TAFE qualifications. Proof of a satisfactory English standard is required for students with overseas qualifications from non-English speaking backgrounds.
Minimum entrance requirements also include satisfactory completion of the full first year of an Associate Diploma course or an Advanced Certificate course (Cert IV) offered from a TAFE institute, or by two semester-length units of a course or non-degree studies taught by Monash, another university or Open Universities Australia.
Indigenous applicants, who have not completed school and/or are of mature age, can apply for nursing at Monash University through the Monash Indigenous Access Scheme (MIAS).
Units 1 and 2- two units (any study combination) from general mathematics or mathematical methods (CAS), or Units 3 and 4-mathematics (any). Units 3 and 4-a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English.
Gaining the required result in one of the following tests of English language:
a minimum overall IELTS test score of at least 6.5 with individual band scores required at 6.5 for Reading, 6.5 for Listening, 6.0 for Writing and 6.0 for Speaking.
a TOEFL minimum test score of either;
in the written TOEFL, 580 with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of at least 4.5; or
in the internet-based TOEFL, an overall score of at least 90 with at least 22 in the written section and no less than 20 in any other section.
