Course overview

This course seeks to upgrade the qualifications of registered nurses to meet the needs of working in contemporary health care settings. It assists students to develop the skills necessary to understand and evaluate new information and concepts.

The course prepares nurses who are committed to the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health, and the prevention of disease. Areas of study include legal and ethical issues, medical-surgical nursing, high acuity care, health promotion, social sciences, multicultural issues, anatomy, physiology, microbiology and pharmacology, plus other related areas.

Career outlook

Graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as Division 1 nurses with the Nurses Board of Victoria, or its equivalent. Graduates may work in a variety of settings including public or private hospitals, community health centres, mental health care, home-based nursing, extended care and rehabilitation.

Minimum entrance requirements

Applicants applying for the course must meet the following requirements:

Students must be Registered Nurses in their country of origin to enrol in this course (equivalent to Division 1 with the Nurses Board of Victoria).

Entry requirements

English requirements for international students

IELTS minimum test score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0 if not planning to register as a nurse in Victoria. However, for registration in Victoria, the Nurses Board of Victoria requires International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Academic test: A score of at least 6.5 in Reading and Listening and a score of at least 7 in Writing and Speaking with an overall band score of at least 7.
