This is an interdisciplinary course designed for those who are interested in exploring the issues that are associated with the role of English as an international language. It covers issues that relate to the socio-cultural, conceptual and ideological considerations that relate to the spread of English around the world. Areas studied include the speaker's identity, teaching of English as an international language and the use of English as a lingua franca in international professional contexts.
