After graduating, opportunities will open up in research and teaching, clinical, child or career counselling, clinical neuropsychology and educational, forensic, health, organisational and sports psychology, and many other areas. You could also undertake further study and training to practise as a psychologist.
You could also have many employment options in the private and public sectors because of your generic writing and analytical skills, understanding of psychological principles and competency in statistics.
This degree will allow you change people's lives and influence the way educators, policy makers and the community think about mental disorders and the workings of the human mind. The degree includes a three-year bachelor's degree plus a prestigious honours year - with entry based on your third-year results.
After you graduate, you can take further steps to practise as a professional psychologist or work as a researcher and participate in the revolution taking place in psychology thanks to unparalleled advances in molecular genetics, developmental cognitive neuroscience, neuropsychology and brain imaging.
Our researchers are leaders in these fields. Many of them collaborate extensively with researchers here and in Europe, the US and the UK. Among other developments, our researchers have created a test to help doctors identify early signs of dementia in Parkinson's disease patients and a smartphone app to gather data on how music affects mood, especially in adolescents.
You will study nine core units, accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council, seven elective psychology units and eight non-psychology units.
You can gain broad, interdisciplinary knowledge of psychology or a deep understanding of specific areas, such as brain injury, culture and mental health, behavioural science, neurodevelopment and mood, movement and sleep disorders.
If you are unable to meet the honours-year entry requirements after successfully completing the course's first three years, you will be awarded a Bachelor of Psychological Science, and can apply for other fourth-year psychology programs at Monash or elsewhere.
If you achieve entry to the honours year, you can give full rein to your passion for research. Either way, you'll set yourself up for truly rewarding career options.
