Bachelor of Health Science for 2013

At a glance

Career opportunities

With a Bachelor of Health Science, you will find rewarding opportunities in health research, promotion, policy development and management in government and non-government organisations, including community health organisations.

You will also be well prepared for further study as a health science researcher.

Why study Bachelor of Health Science?

Are you passionate about health and social justice on a local and global scale?

This multidisciplinary degree puts health care in a social context and you in a position to pursue a variety of career paths, including promoting, developing or implementing public and general health programs and policies.

It also opens doors to health science research and postgraduate clinical programs in medicine, social work, nursing or allied health.

Delivered on our Caulfield campus over three years full time or six year's part time, the course encompasses the biomedical and social aspects of health.

You will gain a thorough understanding of the challenging public health issues facing communities in Australia and the rest of the world, and how they are being addressed.

You will learn to identify, investigate, analyse and evaluate health issues and programs through your knowledge of physiology, epidemiology, health care systems, health promotion, policy analysis and health sociology.

You will soon realise just how many social factors can influence health and how modifying them could improve people's lives. Best of all you will learn how to bring about change through effective evidence gathering and advocacy.

You can undertake optional fieldwork or research placements, and apply to study some units at our South Africa campus or participate in programs with such organisations as the Brotherhood of St Laurence or overseas institutions.

You will learn from passionate teachers, who are experts in real-world public health challenges such as disease prevention, obesity, and problem gambling.

Our research units and links to researchers and health professionals across Monash, its related hospitals and around the world, will help pursue an interest as far as you can take it.
