Career opportunities

Social work is one of the fastest growing areas of employment in the fields of health, mental health, education, and child and family welfare. Social workers are able to work in clinical or practice settings, in policy writing, program evaluation and development and research.

Graduates work in schools, child and family welfare, corrections, Centrelink, and community and multicultural agencies.

Monash Honours students have outstanding research training, and have additional skills that are sought after by employers . Students have an excellent record in gaining employment after graduation.

Why study Bachelor of Social Work (with Honours)?

A Monash Honours degree is a mark of high achievement. It provides students with the opportunity to develop research skills beyond the research components of a Bachelor's degree.

A small number of students are offered a place in the honours program at the completion of the third year of the BSW. This option is for students looking to enhance their research abilities and gain greater depths to their understanding of key issues within a specialised field of social work.Honours students are required to complete three subjects in addition to the usual subjects offered in their final year. These subjects are honours research methods, honours project seminar and honours dissertation.

Entry requirements

English requirements for international students

Gaining the required result in one of the following tests of English language:

IELTS score of 7.0 with no individual band score less than 6.5.

a TOEFL minimum test score of either;

in the written TOEFL, 600 with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of at least 5.0; or

in the internet-based TOEFL, an overall score of at least 100 with at least 24 in the written section and no less than 20 in any other section.

Enrolment obligation
