Bachelor of Science / Bachelor of Education for 2010

Course overview

Whether it is living systems, the natural environment or new technologies, science provides the framework for exploration, discovery and learning. The four-year Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Education (Primary) aims to provide a broad general education to prepare students for combination careers in science and primary education. Education studies provide a comprehensive knowledge of the theoretical foundations of education, curriculum studies and teaching practice. Core primary studies cover key learning areas of arts, English, mathematics, health and physical education, science, studies of society and environment (SOSE), and technology. Students gain valuable classroom experience by completing a minimum of 80 days of professional placement, with some placement being undertaken in each year of the course.

The science studies allow students to choose subjects from a wide range of science disciplines (depending on the campus), giving students an understanding of the origins of science and the nature of scientific enquiry. Students can take the course at either the Gippsland campus or between the Peninsula (primary education units) and Clayton (science units) campuses.
