The Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies (BECS) course is designed for people with prior experience and qualifications in early childhood education. It builds on existing Diploma of Children's Services (or equivalent) qualifications and provides a pathway towards a bachelors degree. Students enter the course with a minimum of one year advanced standing and complete the degree in two years full-time or four years part time study at the Peninsula campus. Alternatively, students can complete the program in part-time flexible mode at the Monash Melbourne City campus. Core units are completed in three years. Professional placements are taken after the core units are completed. This option is suited to those who wish to continue working part-time or full-time.
Throughout the program, students gain a deep understanding of child development, learning theories and early childhood pedagogy; early childhood curriculum development; current issues in early childhood education; an appreciation for culturally diverse situations in early childhood settings; and develop a solid professional foundation as an early childhood educator.
Students learn from a group of passionate and experienced early childhood academic staff. They work closely with students to strengthen and develop their knowledge of early childhood studies and teaching through a combination of theory and practical placements.
As part of the program, students complete up to 80 days of satisfactory supervised placement. Those already employed in early childhood settings complete a minimum of 40 days of supervised fieldwork in a setting other than the one in which they are employed.
The BECS course is delivered in a number of study modes. You can choose from full-time or part-time mode at the Peninsula campus or you have the option of a flexible delivery mode at the Monash Melbourne City campus. Students at the city campus study part-time, engaging in face-to-face workshops, one weekend per term for 12 terms (across a four-term year). Core units are completed in three years and the placement units are completed at the end of the three year period. This option is suited to people who wish to continue working part time or full time.

[Note: The off-campus study option is only available in Singapore through the Faculty of Education's offshore partner APMI-KAPLAN].
