Master in Organisational Leadership for 2010

Course overview

The Master in Organisational Leadership recognises that leaders in organisations are educators and must know about and have responsibility for exemplary leadership skills; the development of their people; effective organisational communication; the mentoring of staff; knowledge management; and the application of robust performance management. This course is designed to develop leaders with expertise in effective organisational communication, the mentoring of staff, knowledge management, and the application of robust performance management. The program provides students with a systematic and integrated response to organisational processes and imperatives relating to new concepts of leadership; the effective functioning of organisations; team based approaches to work; mechanisms for assuring quality; flexible and learning across the lifespan; and organisational designs for the future. The course can be completed by six coursework units; or a combination of five coursework units and a professional project; or four coursework units plus a 16,000 word thesis.

Exit Points: Students may exit the program after successful completion of four units with a Postgraduate Diploma in Organisational Leadership, or after two units with a Postgraduate Certificate in Organisational Leadership, subject to completion of the appropriate units.

Graduates work in areas such as adult vocational education and training, management and administration, research, education, human resources, organisational management, planning and policy analysis, quality management and training.

Applicants must hold an approved three-year bachelors degree in a relevant field with a credit average in the final year; or an approved fourth year of study; or an approved four year bachelors degree; or have qualifications or experience that the faculty considers to be equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for the above. Applicants who are not native speakers of English will be required to demonstrate substantial competence in written and spoken English by one of the approved methods before admission.
