The course offers practical employment skills that are transferable across any number of different careers. In addition to developing a broad and critical understanding, the course is designed to foster an intellectual and cultural curiosity as preparation for lifelong learning.

With this double degree, you'll improve your life and employment opportunities. The international perspective and highly developed scientific skills you'll gain will help shape careers in international relations or trade, foreign affairs, diplomacy, politics and government, environmental research and planning and international not-for-profit organisations, as well as in traditional and emerging areas of science.

Professional recognitions

Australian

Accreditation by the Australian Psychological Society (Monash psychology program).

Certified chemist status with the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (for students who complete an approved program in chemistry).

Graduate membership of the Australian Institute of Physics (for students who complete an approved major sequence in physics, plus required units in mathematics).

Why study Bachelor of Arts (Global) and Bachelor of Science?

This double degree requires you to not just think globally but study globally as well. Overseas travel is a compulsory part of the course, which connects you with internationally recognised scholars and world-class facilities.

Flexibility is king with this program, which has an enormous breadth of study choice built into the science degree and a huge range of study options on offer from the 'faculty without borders' that is Arts.

Offered only at Monash Clayton, you get to choose your majors from 21 science and 16 broad arts areas of study. This choice allows you to design a unique course, which could see you combining atmospheric science with international studies, alongside sustainability, environment and society, and complementing your choice with minors in ecology and conservation biology and communications.

Within the Bachelor of Arts (Global) component, you'll complete an international studies major and a complementary minor - think languages, politics or cultural studies.

You must study at least one semester and up to three semesters overseas. Study opportunities exist at more than 100 partner universities around the world, as well as our international campuses in Malaysia and South Africa, giving you an exciting opportunity to expand your horizons and career possibilities.

The science component offers flexibility of choice and a broad science education with specialist training in one or more science areas, selected from 35 different major sequences. This flexibility allows you to explore new areas, further develop your strengths and pursue your own interests.

The course offers practical employment skills, including numeracy, data analysis, information literacy, problem solving, communication and presentation skills, and the ability to work in teams. It's a versatile course that will prepare you for life after study and equip you with a truly unique set of skills and experiences.

Minimum entrance requirements

Equivalent Australian Year 12.

Minimum entrance requirements for non-school-leavers

TAFE Diploma graduates

To be considered, applicants who have completed VCE or its equivalent and who are applying with a science-based diploma will require a minimum average result of at least 70%

Applicants who have not completed VCE but have completed a science-based diploma will require a minimum average results of at least 80%

TAFE Certificate IV graduates

Science-based certificate IV level studies will be considered where the applicant has average results of 80% or above. For applicants who have also completed VCE, both qualifications will be considered. No credit is granted for these studies.

University

Two single units satisfy minimum entry requirements, but more units may be useful for selection, especially in science areas. Applicants should have at least a 70% average in their studies.

Studies must have been completed within a five years of intended commencement.

VCE prerequisites

Units 3 and 4-one of biology, chemistry, mathematical methods (CAS), physics, geography, psychology or specialist mathematics, and a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English.

International Baccalaureate subject prerequisites

  • One of biology (any), chemistry (any), geography (any), mathematics SL, further mathematics SL, mathematics HL, physics (any) or psychology (any), and
  • A score of at least 4 in English SL or 3 in English HL or 5 in English B SL or 4 in English B HL.

Enrolment obligation

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than 25% of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students cannot enrol exclusively in distance and/or online learning study in any compulsory study period. See standard 9.4 of The National Code 2007.
