Ambulance paramedics are in demand from government and private ambulance service providers in Australia. You will also find work opportunities in industrial and community emergency-health settings here and overseas.
Monash is the only Victorian university to provide postgraduate training for the elite Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance paramedics (MICA).
The course is recognised by Paramedics Australasia and the Australian College of Ambulance Professionals NSW.
Paramedics are life savers, usually the first medically trained personnel to provide medical treatment in an emergency. They need to be cool-headed, quick thinking and very well trained.
This course provides the skills you need to remain calm and act effectively in a medical emergency.
Delivered on our Peninsula campus, the course is built around world-leading research and extensive paramedic teaching experience - we have built strong relationships with Ambulance Victoria and have been delivering their education programs for around 15 years.
You'll be taught by some of the world's top paramedic researchers and benefit from our extensive research and clinical links to The Alfred Hospital, which boasts Victoria's busiest emergency department, and the Monash Medical Centre, one of the state's major teaching hospitals.
These industry links allow us to adapt the course to changing needs, such as the growing use of ambulance services by the elderly as our population ages.
You'll get to practice alongside other emergency service providers, such as the Country Fire Authority, Victoria Police, the Environmental Protection Agency and Ambulance Victoria, and gain work experience within hospitals and health and ambulance services across Victoria.
You'll also graduate with a wealth of local and overseas opportunities and be well prepared for further studies, including training to become an elite Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance paramedic (MICA).
Please note that places in the course are unavailable for international student in 2012.
