Course overview

Mental health nurses provide support, counselling, advocacy and education to people and their families at times of great stress.

They are often central to the planning and delivery of mental-health services and interventions.

This degree allows students to gain a mix of skills in nursing and psychology that prepare them for careers in the mental-health field.

Graduates are eligible for registration with the Nurses Board of Victoria as Division 1 nurses with specialist mental-health training.

Career outlook

Mental health nurses work in a variety of settings, including private and public hospitals, psychiatric nursing, community clinics or mental health services and in rehabilitation centres.

Graduates can also continue studying towards registration with the Australian Psychological Accreditation Council.

Units 3 and 4-mathematics (any), and a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English.

International Baccalaureate subject prerequisites

English and mathematics (any) at a minimum of four at standard level.

Internet-based TOEFL score of 90 with 22 in Writing and no section lower

than 20.
