This course is intended for radiographers or other suitably qualified health professionals, seeking to gain an understanding of the principles of ultrasound and study in a particular field of ultrasound. Students undertake studies in physics of medical ultrasound and instrumentation as well as embryology, anatomy and pathophysiology. They also undertake two studies chosen from sonographic professional skills, sonography of the breast and thyroid; sonographic abdominal imaging; sonographic imaging of the reproductive system; obstetric sonography; musculoskeletal, neonatal and paediatric sonography; and sonographic vascular and postoperative imaging. This course is not available to international student visa holders who wish to undertake the course in Australia.
Health professionals completing this program gain further skills in ultrasound priniciples and techniques.

Applicants will generally be graduates of a degree program in radiography and medical imaging or equivalent who have a minimum of 12 months postgraduate experience and have attained their Statement of Accreditation from the Australian Institute of Radiography or equivalent. Applicants holding degrees in other related areas (such as medicine, nursing, biomedical sciences, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine or other health sciences) will be considered, and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences. Prior to admission to the sonograhic imaging units, applicants must provide evidence verifying that they are actively engaged in clinical ultrasound for the equivalent of three days a week. The university does not accept any responsibility for finding clinical placements.

English requirements for international students IELTS 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0; TOEFL 580 with a TWE of 5; or a computer-based TOEFL 237 with an Essay Rating (ER) of 5.
