International entry requirements
An undergraduate degree, in any discipline.
Selection is a competitive process made primarily on academic merit.
As a guide, an undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 5.0 on a 7-point scale is required to be considered. Consideration may also be given to a subsequently-completed Masters degree with required grades.
For applicants who have not completed their studies within the last 8 years, consideration may be given to personal and professional achievements, communication skills and motivation and reasons for undertaking the course.
Students wishing to transfer from a JD course at another university are assessed on their entire academic history.
English requirements for international students
Applicants must have undertaken an English language proficiency test within 24 months prior to the study commencement date and have achieved the following results:
- IELTS: 7.0 with no individual band score under 7.0
- TOEFL: 600 with no less that 5.0 for TWE; or computer-based TOEFL of 253 with an essay rating (ER) of 5; or internet-based TOEFL overall score of 94 with at least 27 in writing, 24 in listening and reading, and 23 in speaking.
Special entry requirements
If in addition to a completed undergraduate degree in any discipline an applicant has incomplete studies in a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent program, the minimum requirement for an Australian qualification is a GPA of 5.0 out of 7 or equivalent in the previous law program with no fail grade in any unit of study undertaken within the last 12 months of that program.
Those applicants who have not completed any formal study in the last eight years are required to submit a current curriculum vitae and a completed Monash JD personal statement. The personal statement may include your reasons for wanting to study law, why you want to study at Monash Law School, any voluntary work or relevant work experience, any applicable achievements and other relevant aspects that you feel will improve your application.
Some candidates may also be interviewed.
