Bachelor of Engineering / Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science for 2010

Course overview

Unique in Australia and one of only a handful of such courses worldwide, the Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science opens up a range of exciting careers in the development and manufacture of sophisticated pharmaceutical products, such as improved drugs and vaccines targeting chronic diseases like avian flu, malaria, HIV, diabetes, glaucoma and asthma. Offered by the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, in the inner-Melbourne suburb of Parkville, this degree produces highly skilled graduates who can work across the spectrum of the pharmaceutical product design and development process. Students complete the first year of the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science program at the Parkville campus before undertaking a compressed selection of Bachelor of Engineering common first year units and second year chemical engineering units at Clayton campus. The third year, is a return to Parkville campus to complete the core second year units and selected thirdyear units in formulation chemistry. In the final two years at Clayton, students complete higher-level chemical engineering units, including units from the biotechnology stream. The final year research project provides the opportunity to select a research topic involving formulation or chemical engineering or both.
