The Master in Counselling is an innovative program in counselling that has been specially designed to fulfil the demand for counselling knowledge and skills from professional people with an interest in counselling. The program provides a professional qualification and real-life counselling expertise for people who may not be practising psychologists or social workers, but who nonetheless have a strong interest in counselling. The Master in Counselling attracts people from a variety of professions such as human resources, health, social welfare and education. Specific objectives of the program are to ensure an advanced level of knowledge about major approaches to counselling; to provide training in counselling practice and develop skills for immediate application in the workplace; and to introduce the study of ethical and professional issues in undertaking counselling as a profession.
Exit point: Students may exit the program with a Graduate Certificate in Counselling after successful completion of two appropriate units.
Graduates work in careers counselling, education, child and family services, child protection services, child psychology, health policy, counselling, family counselling, health services management, and rehabilitation counselling. The Masters is a recognised training course of the Australia Counselling Association (ACA).
