This course is designed to meet the needs of teachers (or prospective teachers) from overseas who want to acquire the skills and knowledge to teach English in overseas settings as a second, foreign or international language.
The course alone does not qualify graduates to teach TESOL in Victorian schools. Applicants who wish to teach TESOL in Victorian schools must have a recognised teaching qualification with Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration and additional TESOL training.
If you are seeking a Victorian school teaching qualification and have already completed a bachelors degree, please refer to information about the Master of Teaching programs on the faculty website: www.education.monash.edu/courses/
Domestic students with VIT registration who are seeking specialist TESOL teaching qualifications should consider the Master of Education with a specialisation in TESOL.
The Master of Education (TESOL International) offers a complete range of units covering basic teaching principles through issues in curriculum and assessment to broader socio-cultural concerns regarding the place of English in learners' lives. Students will develop an understanding of the theory and practice of teaching English as a second, foreign or international language in a range of contexts (primary, secondary, tertiary and the workplace).
For more information on the course structure visit the coursemap page.
Exit points: Students may exit the program after successful completion of four units with a Postgraduate Diploma of Education, or after two units with a postgraduate certificate.
