Career opportunities

The dynamic nature of communication design means that you have an exciting array of career options open to you upon graduation. You can pursue opportunities in design studios, advertising, media companies, gaming, film and television, publishing and corporate communications.

Depending on the brief, communication designers work on projects that can include corporate identity, branding, typography, illustration and image making, interactive media, interaction design, web and app design, animation, motion graphics, information design, print and digital publishing, environmental graphics, packaging design or post-production.

Applicants must meet the Monash University Entry Requirements as outlined at http://adm.monash.edu/admissions/undergrad/entry-requirements/index.html

  • Age requirements: students must normally be 17 years of age at the date of enrolment in the course. Some exemptions may apply.
  • VTAC applicants: VCE prerequisites Units 3 and 4-a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English and a minimum ATAR of 70. Extra requirements: Application Kit, Interview and folio presentation (short-listed applicants only).

Non-Year 12: Equivalent to Year 12 English, Application Kit, Interview and folio presentation (short-listed applicants only).

VCE prerequisites

Units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English and a minimum ATAR of 70.

International Baccalaureate subject prerequisites

A score of at least 4 in English SL or 3 in English HL or 5 in English B SL or 4 in English B HL. A minimum IB score of 25.

Special application requirements

VTAC APPLICANTS:

Application Kit: Applicants must download a kit online by 28 September. Applicants can access the kit at Open Day. Telephone requests will not be accepted. Applicants must complete and submit the kit by 8 October.

Interview and folio presentation (short-listed applicants only): Details will be sent to applicants by 19 November. Applicants must attend in November. Advisory letters will be sent to applicants by 17 December.

DIRECT APPLICANTS:

International applicants: All applicants must submit a folio of 10-15 images of their work for assessment. For further details, please refer to the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture website. http://www.artdes.monash.edu.au/study/apply/folioguidelines.html

Local applicants: All applicants must apply through VTAC. Please refer to the VTAC information above.
