Why study Bachelor of Architectural Design?

Architects provide leadership in the design and construction of the built environment, collaborating with engineers, builders and other design professionals. This course offers a program of education in the discipline of architecture. It is the first in a two degree program intended for students who wish to qualify for practice as an architect. The first semester of first year involves the drawing and theory units common to design students, and the faculty-wide health and safety unit. There is also an 'architecture workshop' that involves an introduction to workshop and studio skills and safe practices, and the foundation architecture design studio, which incorporates the concept of 'making architecture'.

Career opportunities

The Bachelor of Architectural Design is the first of two degrees designed for students who wish to practice as an architect. Students who successfully complete this bachelor degree are guaranteed entry to the two-year Master of Architecture program.

A strong employment market for architects exists in Australia, as well as substantial international opportunities. Many Australian architects work for practices overseas and Australian firms regularly undertake international projects.

Professional recognitions

Australian

Upon completion of both the Bachelor of Architectural Design and the Master of Architecture students will have achieved the AACA National Competency Standards applicable to university courses, and will comply with the RAIA Education Policy Performance Criteria.
