Course overview
The Master of Visual Arts offers the flexibility of both on-campus or off-campus study, and attracts artists wishing to work from their own studio. This coursework degree provides a critical guidance in contemporary visual arts philosophies. It is designed for students with an undergraduate degree in art or design who want to relate their own practice to historical or contemporary discourse. It encourages a relationship between technical excellence in the studio and the conceptual aspirations of the discipline. Students are exposed to a critical review of their work in a supportive environment.
Disciplines offered include:
- ceramics (Caulfield only)
- drawing
- glass (Caulfield only)
- metals and jewellery (Caulfield only)
- painting
- photomedia
- printmedia
- sculpture
- tapestry (Caulfield only)
- visual arts.
Students complete three studio units. Students will also be required to take two units of contextual, critical or theoretical studies to complement and support their studio work. Entry and exit points: All students enrol in the Master of Visual Arts, but can choose to exit the course after one or two semesters of full-time study. After successfully completing one semester's study, students can exit with a graduate certificate, or after completing two semesters they may exit with a graduate diploma.
