Master of International Development and Environmental Analysis for 2010

Course overview

This course is a professionally orientated program aimed at students from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds who wish to pursue careers, or enhance their professional skills, in the fields of international development and environmental sustainability. The program takes an innovative, interdisciplinary approach based on contemporary concerns with the processes, theories and practices of globalisation and environmental sustainability in the international context. It encourages critical and comparative analysis of international development policies and practice. Studies focus on areas such as global production systems, foreign direct investment and flexible specialisation, devolution of governance and centralisation of geopolitical power, global climate change, and changing concepts of property in natural resource exploitation and management. Students acquire specialised skills in development research and environmental analysis, develop comparative international perspectives for analysing the contexts of international development and global sustainability, and gain workplace experience in international development. Students complete most units by coursework but may also include a minor research project.
