Our Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music is consistently ranked among the best research schools of music in Australia, and has an outstanding track record in winning competitive research funding in composition. The school is also currently home to Vice Chancellor's Professional Fellow Paul Grabowsky, an esteemed Australian pianist, composer, arranger and conductor.
So surround yourself with some of the best in the business and join our research community by enrolling in our Master of Arts (Music Composition) research degree.
In this course you will develop a distinctive compositional voice by creating a folio of original compositions across various media and an accompanying critical commentary exploring your compositional approaches and musical aesthetics.
While undertaking your research, you will be supervised by an academic whose research expertise aligns with yours. For example, you may find yourself working with Associate Professor Thomas Reiner, an award-winning composer of solo pieces, chamber works, orchestral compositions, works for music theatre, vocal works, concept pieces, electro-acoustic and electronic works.
See our research supervisors and their areas of expertise to find a suitable supervisor for your research interests.
When completed, your research should make a significant contribution to the current body of knowledge on your chosen topic.
You may also choose to continue on to a PhD in Music Composition to further explore and define your compositional voice.
