Why study Master of Arts (Music Performance)?

Performance is a particular area of research strength for Monash Arts. Our Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music is also consistently ranked among the best research schools of music in Australia.

So join our research community by enrolling in our Master of Arts (Music Performance) by research degree.

In this course you will prepare a well-researched, high-quality recital performance of challenging works that will be recorded and submitted as part of a portfolio with a program booklet and explanatory research essay.

While undertaking your research, you will be supervised by an academic whose research expertise aligns with yours. For example, if classical music performance interests you, you may find yourself working with classical pianist Dr Kenji Fujimura. Or, if jazz is more your thing, our Head of School Robert Burke may be just the supervisor you're looking for.

See our research supervisors and their areas of expertise to find a suitable supervisor for your interests.

When completed, your research should make a significant contribution to the current body of knowledge on your chosen topic. Your instrumental or vocal performance skills should also have developed to the level required for professional performance.

You may also choose to continue on to a PhD in Music Performance to further expand your expertise in performance-based research.
