Why study Master of Bioethics?

This research program focuses on ethical issues raised by medicine and the biomedical sciences. It will be of interest to health care professionals, teachers in the health care field, and those with a general interest in the area. Areas of research strength include ethical issues in patient care, the ethics of clinical trials, ethical problems of resource allocation, medical end-of-life decisions, new reproductive technologies, nursing ethics, surrogacy, disability and discrimination, moral psychology and moral development.

Minimum entrance requirements

The minimum qualifications for admission to 100% research masters candidature are:

  • a four year Australian or New Zealand bachelors degree with an overall result of H2A or above (normally with a research component in the fourth year) or
  • an Australian or New Zealand masters preliminary qualification with a significant research component and with an overall result of H2A or above or
  • an Australian or New Zealand coursework masters degree with a significant research component graded at Distinction or above, and an overall result of Distinction or above or
  • an Australian or New Zealand research masters degree with an overall result of H2A or above or
  • a qualification considered equivalent to one of the above.

English requirements for international students

IELTS overall test score of 7.0, with a minimum score of 7.0 for the writing module, and at least 6.0 for other individual bands (academic module), or TOEFL minimum test score of 600, with a TWE 5.0 (paper-based score), or TOEFL minimum test score of 250, with an ER 5.0 (computer-based score).

Enrolment obligation

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than 25% of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students cannot enrol exclusively in distance and/or online learning study in any compulsory study period. See standard 9.4 of The National Code 2007.
