Why study Master of Environmental Science by Research and Coursework?

This course is concerned with the interactions between humans and their bio-geological contexts with the aim of reintegrating the two with the insights offered by both the humanities and the sciences.

Research emphasises the processes behind human-environment interactions, the development of policy, and the implementation of management strategies favourable to the environment.

The program offers a primary insight into the nature of the environmental issues through core coursework units involving interdisciplinary research experience and an understanding of the social construction of the issues.

Minimum entrance requirements

The minimum qualifications for admission to 66% research master's candidature are:

  • a four year Australian or New Zealand bachelor's degree with an overall result of an upper H2B (mark of 65 or above) (normally with a research component in the fourth year) or
  • an Australian or New Zealand master's preliminary qualification with a significant research component and with an overall result of an upper H2B (mark of 65 or above) or
  • an Australian or New Zealand coursework master's degree with a significant research component graded at Distinction or above, and an overall result of Distinction or above or
  • an Australian or New Zealand research master's degree with an overall result of an upper H2B (mark of 65 or above) or
  • a qualification considered equivalent to one of the above.

English requirements for international students

IELTS overall test score of 6.5, with a minimum score of 6.0 for each of the individual bands (academic module), or TOEFL minimum test score of 577, with a TWE 5.0 (paper-based score), or TOEFL minimum test score of 233, with an ER 5.0 (computer-based score).

This course currently doesn't have places available for mid-year entry.

Enrolment obligation

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than 25% of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students cannot enrol exclusively in distance and/or online learning study in any compulsory study period. See standard 9.4 of The National Code 2007.
