Monash Arts is renowned for innovative, engaging and high quality research in the humanities and social sciences. Our areas of research strength include: Cultural Heritage; Environmental Sustainability; Interpreting Cultures; Philosophy and Bioethics; Social and Cultural Theory; Global Change and Global Security; Health, Wellbeing and Social Change; and Performance.
Join us and take you research interest to the next level by enrolling in our Master of Arts by research degree.
While undertaking your research, you will be supervised by an academic whose research expertise aligns with yours. For example, if you're interested in policing and human rights, you may find yourself working with Professor Sharon Pickering who has just been nominated for a Human Rights Award by The Australian Human Rights Commission for her series of articles - The Conversation's Academic Expert Panel on Asylum Seekers. Or, if geography and sustainability are more your thing, Dr Xuan Zhu, whose expertise includes Geographical Information Systems (GIS) theory, techniques and applications, may be the academic supervisor for you.
We have 500 plus academics who are active researchers in over 100 different areas. See our research supervisors and their areas of expertise.
When completed, your research should make a significant contribution to the current body of knowledge on your chosen topic.
You may also choose to continue on to a PhD given your new-found skills in applying, clarifying, critiquing and interpreting knowledge.
