Why study Diploma of Art and Design Studies?

The diploma is offered in two parts. Part 1 is taught at Australian Year 12 level and Part 2 is equivalent to first year of an undergraduate degree and Studies provides entry to first or second year of selected Monash University Art and Design degrees. Students are required to complete a wide range of compulsory subjects covering all aspects of art and design. They include: visual art, drawing, art and design theory, communication, digital imaging, graphic design, photo media, typography and multimedia. Students may enter semester two of the first year of the degree into the Bachelor of Industrial Design or the Bachelor of Interior Architecture. Alternatively they may enter second year into the Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication) or the Bachelor of Multimedia and Digital Arts. This course is suitable for students who:

  • narrowly miss out on the entry scores required for directly entry into Monash University
  • need to bridge the gap between their highest qualification and those required for entry to Monash University
  • Want an alternative pathway than Year 12 or foundation studies

English requirements for international students

English Language Requirements

Students must demonstrate English language ability before being admitted to Monash College. English language requirements can be met if:

  • English was the language of instruction in secondary or tertiary studies completed, or
  • A satisfactory level of performance in an approved English language subject was achieved at Australian Year 11 or 12 (or equivalent), or
  • Other English language proficiency requirements are met

Enrolment obligation

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than 25% of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students cannot enrol exclusively in distance and/or online learning study in any compulsory study period. See standard 9.4 of The National Code 2007.
