Why study Diploma of Engineering Studies?

The diploma is offered in two parts. Part 1 is taught at Australian Year 12 level and Part 2 is equivalent to first year of an undergraduate degree and Studies provides entry to second year of Monash University Engineering degrees. Students may enter one of the following Monash University destination degrees after the diploma: Bachelor of Engineering (all majors), Bachelor of Technology (Computer Studies) Students are required to complete a wide range of compulsory subjects covering all aspects of engineering. They include mathematics, chemistry, computing, physics, communication, managing people and organisations, mechanical, chemical, civil, electrical, and materials engineering and engineering systems. This course is suitable for students who:

  • narrowly miss out on the entry scores required for directly entry into Monash University
  • need to bridge the gap between their highest qualification and those required for entry to Monash University
  • Want an alternative pathway than Year 12 or foundation studies

3). Prerequisites

Part 1: Australian Year 11 mathematics, chemistry and physics or equivalent.

Students may satisfy the mathematics, chemistry and physics prerequisite by undertaking additional subjects at Monash College.

Part 2: Australian Year 12 mathematics and 1 of Year 12 chemistry or physics or equivalent.

English requirements for international students

English Language Requirements

Students must demonstrate English language ability before being admitted to Monash College. English language requirements can be met if:

  • English was the language of instruction in secondary or tertiary studies completed, or
  • A satisfactory level of performance in an approved English language subject was achieved at Australian Year 11 or 12 (or equivalent), or
  • Other English language proficiency requirements are met

Enrolment obligation

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than 25% of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students cannot enrol exclusively in distance and/or online learning study in any compulsory study period. See standard 9.4 of The National Code 2007.
