Bachelor of Primary Education for 2008

Course overview

The graduates of this degree are well prepared to teach throughout the primary years of schooling and into the early years of secondary. The degree focuses on the teaching and learning of primary school age children in the key learning areas of the arts, English, mathematics, health and physical education, science and SOSE (Studies of Society and Environment). Learning and teaching theories are examined, along with curriculum development and critical reflection on issues in education. Throughout the four years of the degree opportunities are presented for a range of field placements to be undertaken in a variety of settings, including overseas.

Accreditation

Australian: Graduates are eligible to teach in primary schools in Victoria in their field of specialisation, although registration with VIT will be necessary. While many graduates hold a range of interstate and overseas teaching positions, applicants are advised to check with local authorities regarding teacher registration requirements.
