Bachelor of Visual Arts for 2009

Course overview

This broad, multidisciplinary degree allows students to study the combination of units that best suits their individual or professional aims. The program is highly flexible and allows students to take a wide range of electives from across the Faculty of Art and Design and possibly the university.

Students take a common first year, providing a sound introduction to both practice and theory in the visual arts before selecting a major discipline and a choice of elective units.

They are then able to pursue specific areas of interest such as painting, sculpture, photomedia, printmedia, ceramics, interdisciplinary design, glass, metals and jewellery, tapestry and visual arts studio. Studies also include the theory of art and design, digital imaging, drawing and professional practice.

In the second year, places in specific studios will be allocated on the basis of academic merit.

Career outlook

A degree in the visual arts can lead to a career as an artist, craftsperson, teacher, or to work in museums, galleries, community arts programs, art and design consultancies or conservation organisations.
