This eight-unit off-campus course is directed primarily towards health, welfare and education professionals in Australia and overseas working with children and adolescents with emotional and behavioural problems. It aims to increase students' knowledge of psychoanalytic and developmental theory and the application of these to the treatment of children and adolescents with psychological difficulties, and to consider how this knowledge may be applied in their own workplace. The course does not provide specialist clinical training.
Core studies include psychoanalytic and developmental theories, normal developmental observation, psychodynamic assessment of children and adolescents, principles of child and adolescent psychotherapy, working with parents and short-term therapy and crisis work.
This program enhances graduates skills in dealing with children and adolescents with emotional and behavioural problems within the health, welfare and education field.
