Bachelor of Industrial Design for 2010

Course overview

This course focuses on the research and design of consumer and industrial products. There is an emphasis on project-based learning at each level of the course. Students learn to plan and manage projects within the constraints of a realistic brief. The product design studio is supported by specialist units in ergonomics, engineering for industrial design, computer-aided design, professional practice, and project research and planning.

The program also includes the theory of art and design, contemporary issues surrounding art and design, professional practice, digital imaging, product drawing and visual structures.

Career outlook

This degree can lead to a career in consumer and industrial product design in the automotive, electronic, packaging, exhibition, sporting and furniture industries and many others.

Entry requirements

Minimum entrance requirements

Equivalent Australian Year 12.

VCE prerequisites

Units 3 and 4- a study scores of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English and study score of at least 20 in mathematics (any) and a minimum ENTER of 70.00.

International Baccalaureate subject prerequisites

English and Mathematics at a minimum of grade four at standard level.

VTAC APPLICANTS:

Application Kit: Applicants must download a kit online by 25 September. Applicants can also access the kit at Open Day. Telephone requests will not be accepted. Applicants must complete and submit the kit by 9 October.

Interview and folio presentation (short-listed applicants only): Details will be sent to applicants by 9 November. Applicants must attend in November. Advisory letters will be sent to applicants by 14 December.
